Jellyfish repair

Simon Moore repairing a Rhizostome jellyfish with a dropped tentacle and torn umbrella.

Simon was asked by Louise Bacon of the Horniman Museum in Greater SE London to repair a jellyfish and this was done using a special adhesive (celloidin) which gels in slightly water-diluted alcohol (in which the jellyfish was preserved). The tentacle was glued back and the tear in the umbrella or bell of the jellyfish was gap-filled using a more concentrated version of the same reagent and using a watch glass as a support and to provide the correct curvature.
